ARTS: The Institute for Contemporary Art reopened

ARTS: The Institute for Contemporary Art reopened a past exhibition to highlight a small community of Christians called the Shakers who are recognized for their simple living, furniture design, architecture and more. ⁠
⁠
The original exhibition, “The Quiet in the Land: Everyday Life, Contemporary Art, and the Shakers,” opened in 1998 at the ICA. Its current exhibit, Believers Artists and the Shakers uses some of the original pieces from 1998 as well as new works that were created for the revival of the exhibit. ⁠

NEWS: Our Bodies Ourselves signed to operate exclusively out of Suffolk University Feb. 11. The signing brought many people, including Suffolk University President Marisa Kelly, students who have worked for OBOS from Suffolk and Tufts University and founding member of OBOS, Judy Norsigian.⁠

The organization was founded in 1969 at Emmanuel College by a community of women who came together to share their experiences with sexism. The group realized that the lack of information provided to them about their own bodies and health was stunting the equality of women.⁠

SPORTS: Suffolk just acquired its newest cannon this track season — freshman track star Michael Nossek is a weapon on the track and is here to stay.⁠

The 18-year-old biochemistry major ran the 60 yard dash in 6.80 seconds at Harvard University’s Crimson Open meet Feb. 8, breaking his own record he previously set of 7.03 seconds. From high school track to the collegiate level, Nossek is the definition of a “student athlete.”⁠

2025 is an interesting year to be a student journalist.⁠

All around me, journalism seems to face a new threat every day — lack of public trust, government officials blocking media access, increasing shutdowns of local outlets, an impossible demanding and overwhelming pace of news, the list goes on and on. ⁠
⁠
Amid so much change and turmoil, journalism is more crucial than ever before. There are so many people in power who are trying to conceal information, work in the shadows and hide their corruption. ⁠
⁠
Journalism brings the light. Our future depends on it, and the future of journalism relies on student journalists.⁠

Suffolk University women’s lacrosse faced off against the Dean College Bulldogs Feb. 22, with the Rams winning their first game in program history 12-8 over the Bulldogs.⁠

“The message before the game was about this being our time,” said head coach Carolynn Keal. “Playing for not only ourselves as a program, but what this program is going to be in 10 years. Really representing our school and making a name for ourselves as we debut this season.”⁠

NEWS: Suffolk University hosted an informational conversation with Alice Rothchild Feb. 18 about “The Health and Human Rights Crisis in Gaza.” Rothchild is a physician, author and activist who has worked with people in Gaza for years to share their stories and bring light to the history of Palestine. ⁠

NEWS: Current SGA Vice President Grace Kane took the podium at the Feb. 13 meeting and urged the candidates to change the way this election was being run. As vice president, it is Kane’s job to oversee all things election-related. This includes election rules, which Kane has noticed are being broken. ⁠
⁠
“As candidates, you should be treating each other with kindness and professionalism. Running for office or a student government position, should not mean trying to undermine others,” said Kane. “It should mean proving why you are the best person for the job through your ideas, your integrity and your ability to lead with respect.”⁠
⁠
While a concern, this wasn’t what worried Kane the most. Election rule-breaking is a habit that can be rectified, but a candidate’s behavior is irreversible. ⁠
