SGA Treasurer Frank Ezhan gave his reports from the Finance Committee. Following his “Frank’s Era of Transparency” motto, he explained what each club requested and why the committee made their decision.
Ezhan said that this is the first time FinCom approved the full amount for all the clubs’ requests. There is nearly half of the budget remaining out of the initial $50,000 budget for the semester according to Ezhan.
“We’re kind of moving in the right direction and used half of it halfway through the semester,” said Ezhan.
The SGA elected board members attended a dinner with the Association of Student Governments and discussed issues, one of them being the club posting policy. SGA Vice President Kayleigh Carey reminded student organizations to follow guidelines regarding posting flyers only in approved areas, ensuring they are stamped by their department the club is under and removing them by the designated date.
Class of 2028 senator Fayth Cordeiro presented a brief overview of the topics covered at last week’s Senator Sit-Down. Their conversations included questions and concerns regarding student affairs, dining, housing and academics. These lists will be given to their respective committee chairs.
“People who won’t typically ask us questions are now asking us questions and if they don’t ask these questions now, who’s to say they would ever get their answer,” said Cordeiro. “Word of mouth gets really far. If they have these questions, their peers might have these questions…Now that they know the answer, they can relay the information to their peers.”
Senator Sit-Downs will be held every Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. in the Smith Dining Hall in the Samia Academic Center.
SGA Secretary Stephanie Lima recognized the class of 2028 senator Fayth Cordeiro for this week’s P.I.L.L.A.R award for her help with SGA’s concert Oct. 23. The award recognizes senators who meet the six pillars which are passion, integrity, leadership, legacy, activism and “Rambition.”
