What is up bacon, egg and cheesers!
On Nov. 6, I went to Bruegger’s Bagels to try their signature bacon, egg and cheese called, The Farmhouse. This breakfast sandwich comes with two eggs, bacon, ham, cheddar cheese and country pepper cream cheese on a cheesy hashbrown bagel.
My final score was based on the average of six different categories; taste, presentability, eatability, smell, cost and experience.
My score for the taste is a four out of five. I was hesitant about the bacon and ham combination overpowering the rest of the sandwich, but was pleasantly surprised. The extra cheese on the bagel helped level out the saltiness of the ham and also tasted delicious. What did come through the most was the cream cheese, which is something I had never had on a bacon, egg and cheese before. The deduced point comes from how the eggs had no salt or pepper, probably due to how complex the flavor of the sandwich already was. However, adding more seasoning would have made The Farmhouse taste even better.
For the presentation, my score was 4.5 out of five. The Farmhouse came wrapped in waxed deli paper and looked like your typical breakfast sandwich. There was nothing too special about the presentation, but the bagel was a bit burnt on the top, taking off half a point.
The eatability of the sandwich was rated four out of five. With all the ingredients in The Farmhouse, it was stacked tall. This meant I had to push the sandwich together to actually get a decent bite. The cream cheese kept dripping out of the sides and the ham fell out almost immediately. The sandwich was also cut in half.Even with some ingredients falling out, it was not too hard to eat.
My score for the smell was a 3.5 out of five. The hot cream cheese was not too enjoyable on the nose. At first, I was hesitant to eat it because of the smell, but it was not intense once I started eating it.
My score for the cost is a three out of five. The Farmhouse comes in at a whopping $10.98. For a college student, spending this much on a breakfast sandwich could really break the bank and this deducted a point from the cost score. The other point was taken off because The Farmhouse is not worth the price point. It is a delicious sandwich, but definitely not almost $11 delicious. It would be more appropriate if this bacon, egg and cheese was priced at $7-8 and I would have felt I got more bang for my buck.
My score for my experience at Bruegger’s Bagels is four out of five. It only took around 10 minutes after ordering to get The Farmhouse, partially due to the short line. A point gets taken off for the lack of seating inside the establishment. There were about four tables with two chairs at each that were all occupied when I arrived. Many people were doing work on their computers long after eating, causing me to find another place to eat my sandwich. The lack of seating is understandable due to Bruegger’s Bagels being located in Downtown Boston, but it definitely hindered my experience.
My final score of The Farmhouse is 3.83 out of five. The sandwich’s taste and presentability were its strong points and really made the experience worthwhile. However, the cost and smell could be heavily improved upon. Bruegger’s Bagels made a delicious sandwich and I recommend checking it out.
