Boston’s Seaport has become a winter wonderland with its annual Snowport festivities. To celebrate the oncoming holidays, Seaport dresses itself to the nines with an outdoors-style market, an abundance of string lights and special events to welcome the winter season.
At Snowport, there is an endless array of things to do. There are so many vendors, each selling something different from their neighbors, making the perfect place to holiday shop for everyone you know. The ideal present opportunities are not the only appealing factor, with food vendors and sweet treats waiting around every corner. There are food trucks that house snacks from nearly every corner of the world. Warm drinks like apple cider or hot chocolate are a huge hit, especially with the chilly weather sweeping through the outdoor market.
There is a booth for every gift you could ever want to give someone this holiday season. From glass ornaments to decorative cutting boards, if you can dream it, you can find it at Snowport. This market is a wonderful way for businesses to give people a glimpse into what they have to offer with a little holiday flair.
As far as events go for highlighting small businesses, this is the best way to accomplish it. What Snowport has done is create a centralized place for these businesses to gather and make them easily accessible. Then, they drew people in by adding novelty to it, dressing it up in its winter coat and tying it up with a lovely red bow.
The ambiance that is sprinkled throughout the market is undeniably cozy. Everyone was in high spirits and more than eager to share the goods they brought with them to Snowport. While inspecting a hair barrette, the owner offered to do my hair, showing all the ways to style it. When walking past chocolatiers, they held out platters with free samples in hopes of persuading me into purchasing a whole box.
Despite the fact that the event has a heavy focus on Christmas, from the music that is played through the speakers to the motifs of the Christmas tree, the holiday cheer doesn’t stop there. To celebrate Hanukkah, there will be a Menorah lighting on Dec. 29, with kosher jelly donuts and chocolate gelt being passed around to follow the Jewish tradition. Holding space for both within Snowport is significant in its own festive way.
Leaving empty-handed is easy enough to do, as simply weaving through the booths is an adventure enough in itself. The merchants are friendly, even if it’s clear you have no interest in buying anything. The crowds aren’t overwhelming, yet, and many are there for the same reason; to share in the festivities that come with the chilly winter. If you acquire a warm drink and maybe split an apple cider donut with a friend, walking around the market is a lovely way to spend the evening.
Snowport stands in a league of its own. For many Bostonians, it’s the sign of the winter that is to come. While it’s a beacon for the holiday season and an aesthetic place to take pictures, it’s also an innovative way to shine a light on the businesses that need it most.
If Snowport doesn’t get you excited for winter and all the holiday cheer it brings, then nothing will. With its twinkling string lights and Christmas tunes musing through the air, Snowport is a must-see this holiday season.
