CambridgeSide brings the enchanting world of Harry Potter to life, inviting witches, wizards and muggles to an unforgettable experience at this exclusive limited-time exhibition.
The exhibition has been open in Boston since September and has extended its stay until April. Tickets are $25, and it’s the only Harry Potter exhibit of its kind in the U.S. right now.
The exhibition features authentic movie props, costumes worn by the actors and an immersive experience that brings the magic of the franchise to life.
As you walk in, get ready to test your knowledge with the staff, who will quiz you on all things Harry Potter and share fun facts about everything from “Fantastic Beasts” to “The Cursed Child”.
Golden Snitch wristbands are given out and serve as the main interactive elements throughout the exhibit. You can choose your Hogwarts house, select a favorite character’s wand and discover your Patronus.
By tapping your wrist on each panel and playing with the interactive features, you earn house points, which are collected throughout the experience. At the end, you’ll see your house’s final standing in the House Cup.
The exhibit is huge, with plenty to discover in each themed room. As you explore, you’ll feel like you’ve apparated to Hogwarts, especially as John Williams’ whimsical soundtrack guides you along the way.
The House Pride room is one of the largest, featuring iconic props from the movies, such as the Sword of Gryffindor, which Harry used to defeat the basilisk in “The Chamber of Secrets.”
Each house section displays real costumes from fan-favorite house members, including classic students’ robes and other memorable outfits, like Bellatrix’s all-black ensemble worn by Helena Bonham Carter, along with insights into the costume design process throughout the films.
After embracing some house pride, you’ll feel like a true Hogwarts student as the exhibit has rooms dedicated to Potions Class, Herbology, Divination and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Here, beloved teachers’ costumes are on display, including Severus Snape’s buttoned robes, worn by Alan Rickman, and Remus Lupin’s tweed outfit, worn by David Thewlis.
These rooms are where the immersive experience turns into a fun game, allowing you to brew your own potion, defeat a boggart, predict your future with a crystal ball and even pot a mandrake.
One of the most detailed rooms, Hagrid’s Hut, features hidden gems and props that true Potterheads will really appreciate, like Hagrid’s pink umbrella. You can take a seat on Hagrid’s enormous couch, while admiring each charming detail of his cozy hut.
The exhibit also features a room for Quidditch lovers, where Harry’s Quidditch uniform, worn by Daniel Radcliffe, is on display alongside his famous Nimbus 2000. You could easily lose track of time in this room, practicing your Quidditch skills. There’s even a game where you and a friend can compete to see who can throw the most Quaffles through the goalposts.
There’s a room dedicated to the Fantastic Beasts fans where you can step inside Newt Scamander’s suitcase and learn about magical creatures like Bowtruckles and Nifflers. Here, Scamander’s costume, worn by Eddie Redmayne, is on display, featuring original costume design sketches.
In the Ministry room, costumes such as Dolores Umbridge’s pink fuzzy mohair dress and jacket, worn by Imelda Staunton, are displayed, along with Hermione Granger’s purple uniform from “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”.
By far one of the coolest rooms is dedicated to one of the most famous villains in pop culture, He Who Must Not Be Named. Voldemort’s sleek black robes, worn by Ralph Fiennes, are on display alongside iconic “Deathly Hallows” movie props, like Tom Riddle’s diary and Slytherin’s locket.
After enjoying the exhibit and getting lost in the nostalgic magic, you can explore the gift shop, which offers plenty of merchandise. The exhibit also has limited late night events that can be found on the website.
The entire experience is definitely worth going to if you’re a big Harry Potter fan. The magic that goes into creating these movies and productions is truly spellbinding. Everything on display is authentic, and it’s amazing to see these real items up close.
Harry Potter: The Exhibition will close in Boston April 27th.
