Another week, another goaltending honor for Suffolk’s Jeff Rose.
On Monday, Rose was named the GNAC Goalie of the Week for the third straight week. The Collinsville, Conn., native went 2-0 on the week, running the Rams’ win streak to a season-high five straight games.
Rose stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced in a 3-2 win over Becker College on Feb. 17, a win that put a bit of distance between the Rams and Becker in the ECAC Northeast.
However, Rose wasn’t done after the Becker game, as he went out and made 31 saves against Western New England College on Feb. 21 in what was a 3-2 Suffolk victory.
Two of the four goals Rose allowed over the course of the week came on an opponent’s power play, and Rose has only allowed three even-strength goals in the past three games, all wins by the Rams.
The highest number of goals Rose has allowed in a game this year is four, which he has only done three times (Nov. 6, Nov. 21 and Feb. 3). Rose has given up two or fewer goals in seven of the last eight games.
The recent play of Rose and the Rams has generated a bit of publicity for the team, as they were mentioned in the online edition of the New England Hockey Journal by Chris Carlson.
“If you believe that there’s nothing more important in the postseason than a hot goaltender, suffice to say, you should look no further than Suffolk for a postseason dark horse,” wrote Carlson in an article titled Goaltending Has Spurred Suffolk.
Rose finished the regular season with a record of 11-7-3. The junior posted a goals-against-average of 2.55 and a save-percentage of .919.
