This April, Suffolk will host the fifth annual Rammy Awards to honor students for their work in 11 different categories ranging from photography, to videos, to public relations and marketing portfolios.

“The Rammys are meant to showcase untapped talent in the Suffolk community,” said Mike DiLoreto, a staff assistant in the communications and journalism (CJN) department.

 
The awards feature work done in the CJN fields, but any and all students at Suffolk are encouraged to participate, DiLoreto stresses.

 
Students may submit work to be considered for nomination in 11 different areas: hard news reporting, feature news reporting, in-depth reporting/documentary, music video, short fiction, commercial/PSA, spot news photo, single color photo, single black-and-white photo, photo essay, and strategic communications campaign.

 
Students are allowed to submit up to two items in one or more categories. Short fiction and in-depth reporting/documentary submissions must be less than 30 minutes. Other guidelines can be found at blogs.cas.suffolk.edu/cjnsuffolk or by contacting DiLoreto ([email protected]).

 
Registration forms can be picked up in Ridgeway 305, and submissions are due by 3 p.m. on Friday, March 9 in Ridgeway 305.

 
After student submissions are in, all of the work is sent to a panel of anonymous judges from outside of the University.

 
“Anyone can win,” DiLoreto said, explaining the judges have no knowledge of who each student is and therefore, have no bias. Judges can be from other universities around Boston or even from out of state, he said.

 
These judges will nominate a top three in each category and all nominated students will be personally invited to the awards ceremony on April 12 at Suffolk’s Modern Theater. In previous years, the Performing Arts Office has put on acts during the show, including the Ramifications acapella group and demonstrations by martial arts groups.

 
However, anyone in the Suffolk community is invited to attend the free awards ceremony, regardless of their participation in the event.

 
Following the show, there will be a reception at Max and Dylan’s restaurant, just around the corner from the Modern and directly across from the 10 West residence hall.
