The Suffolk Journal editorial board’s endorsements for the 2026-2027 Student Government Association president and vice president are as follows:
President – Fayth Cordeiro
In a unanimous vote, The Suffolk Journal editorial board endorses sophomore public relations major Fayth Cordeiro to take the helm of the Student Government Association as its next president.
While junior finance major and current SGA Treasurer Frank Ezhan is a worthy candidate, Cordeiro has presented a succinct and inspired vision for Suffolk University’s student government and its responsibility to the students.
In addition to Cordeiro’s experience as a class senator in SGA and vice chair of the academics committee, we believe she understands that serving as president is a form of service to the university and to the students, and that personal gain must never be placed above the good of the community. This is apparent in her campaign promise to reduce incentives for student government executive board members, instead allocating those funds and experiences to the broader community rather than the select, elected few.
We have confidence that under Cordeiro, student government will center students, as it is responsible to do, in a way that is achievable and productive while also focusing on inclusion and community.
Vice President – Kaylee Sanchez
The Suffolk Journal editorial board endorses sophomore political science major Kaylee Sanchez in another unanimous vote to serve as the 2026-2027 vice president of Suffolk’s Student Government Association.
Sanchez faces fierce competition in fellow sophomore Eliza Bryant and incumbent candidate
Kayleigh Carey. However, Sanchez’s combination of experience adjacent to the role and fresh perspective and ideas she brings to the table earned her The Journal’s backing.
Student government’s vice president largely oversees the student judicial review board, where Sanchez has served as a member on the board for two years. This experience that she launched at the outset of her Suffolk career will allow Sanchez to make an impact and maintain high standards within the governing body early.
Paired with her additional leadership experiences on campus as a current orientation team leader, Sanchez’s campaign message of “door not a wall,” bringing students into student government’s resolution and policy-making processes, instills confidence that Sanchez is well-suited for the position of vice president.
The Suffolk Journal decided to endorse executive board candidates for the 2026-2027 Student Government Association president and vice president through unanimous votes from our editorial board.
The above endorsements reflect the shared and official opinion of The Suffolk Journal’s editorial board, which includes the editor-in-chief, both managing editors, all section editors and copy editors. Other members of staff, such as staff writers and photographers and contributors, are not part of the editorial board and are thus not reflected in this vote, as is industry standard.
These endorsements will in no way impact our ability to maintain journalistic standards of objectivity. Any reporter who is involved in covering SGA did not vote on endorsements to maintain this objectivity. Any editor who disclosed significant personal ties to any presidential or vice presidential candidate also recused themselves from that vote.
Suffolk Student Government Association elections are being held March 2 – March 4 with a candidates’ forum Feb. 26. Students will be sent a link to vote for their student representatives to their Suffolk emails on the first day of the election.
