In their debut album, “The Dream,” as The Favors, Ashe and Finneas push boundaries in the genre of alternative music. From the disco-style sound of “Home Sweet Home,” to the sadness of “Lake George,” this album will have you feeling hopeful and devastated, all while making you get up and dance.
This is not Ashe and Finneas’ first time recording together. Their 2020 hit, “Til Forever Falls Apart” gave fans a first look into the duo’s music career and everyone was obsessed. Fans on social media felt as if their voices have the kind of chemistry that makes two voices feel like one.
In an interview podcast called “Switched On Pop and Vulture,” Ashe and Finneas reveal the chain of texts from the two in 2023 that started their whole adventure as a band.
“Hear me out. We start a band. We put out one album, we play a couple shows, and we call it a day,” said Ashe. Finneas’ response was, “This solves all my problems.”
Many fans online have described this album to be a no skip album. With the main reason being the devastatingly nostalgic feeling that the album evokes during every listen.
Fans have also been acknowledging how both Ashe and Finneas’ styles compliment one another. This definitely can be confirmed, their voices blend so nicely and sound borderline angelic.
A song that has resonated with fans the most is “The Hudson.” This track came out as a single about two months before the album. “The Hudson,” a track with themes of feeling unwanted and out of place, fans felt like it was something a lot of them could relate to. With powerful beat drops and lyricism in the song, it’s no surprise that the song became a hit in their fandom.
“The Little Mess You Made,” the first single that was put out for The Favors, was the world’s first taste into what this band was going to sound like. The beginning piano and the lyrics make the song sound like the sound track to a coming of age movie. Something that fans feel gives the song some character.
“Lake George,” is by far the most devastating song on the whole record. A touching ballad about moving on from lingering love, this song feels personal to fans. Throughout the song, the use of ambient nature and water sounds can be heard. Reinforcing the intimacy that the song brings with its lyrics, which are super catchy.
Another song that has given fans a huge reason to love this album is “Home Sweet Home.” An absolute favorite, this song gives “Earth Wind and Fire” disco vibes. The lyrics are catchy and the song truly just makes you want to get up and dance. Ashe and Finneas even take time at the end of all of their shows to dance to the end of the song. Nothing better than a fun light-hearted song to end off an incredible album.
After the drop of the album, The Favors announced a mini album release tour with three shows. Online fans have been speculating an announcement of a more formal tour, but both Ashe and Finneas have confirmed in many interviews that a tour is not in the plans for now.
The Favors prove with this album that this is way more than just a side project for the two of them. The blend of their voices and their songwriting creates a compelling piece of music that will remain timeless for lots of years to come.
