Suffolk University’s Student Government Association’s newest executive board for the 2025-2026 academic year has been announced. Here are Suffolk’s newest student leaders:
President: Charlie Reyna-Demes
Reyna-Demes, a junior politics and economics student, will take on the top slot of SGA president.
He won with 358 votes, taking the lead by 111 votes over candidate Andrew Gomes and 140 votes over Ruby Walsh.
Reyna-Demes ran a bold campaign on making SGA run more like a “student union,” he told the Journal before the election. Over the run, the president-elect said he’s enjoyed most interacting with new faces on campus and seeing the start of tackling issues together.
“If you put in a lot of work and a lot of effort, people do notice,” said Reyna-Demes. “Just seeing people smile, wave, talk to me about issues, I’ve loved it.”
Inspired by the leadership that came before him, including current SGA President Clinton Oreofe, Reyna-Demes said his central goal will be to find ways for students to be heard by university staff and represented in decisions.
“The goals that I laid out in the campaign, they all boil down to that we, as students, must advocate for ourselves,” said Reyna-Demes.
Vice President: Kayleigh Carey
Carey will serve as second-in-command starting in September. With 364 votes, she pulled slightly ahead of fellow candidate Julia Karwacki, who received 359 votes.
A sophomore film and media major, Carey promised to “be the bridge” between students and faculty in the run-up to the election, and to lead a transparent student government, promises she is excited to deliver on.
“I care so much about this government and this student body,” said Carey. “I’m ready to start moving forward.”
Secretary: Stephanie Lima
Lima topped a three-candidate field for secretary, winning with 330 votes over Zoe Welz and Divinety Johnson with 197 and 187 votes, respectively.
The junior psychology major centered inclusivity and outreach to all students in her run for the position.
Treasurer: Frank Ezhan
Running unopposed, sophomore Frank Ezhan, a finance major, will head up SGA’s budgeting and chair the finance committee as the next treasurer.
As a member of the finance committee for two years, Ezhan said he believes his background and experience will serve him well in the spot, interacting with various student groups for funding.
