Love is supposedly the centerpiece of Valentine’s Day, but Tucker Pillsbury, or more famously known as ROLE MODEL, released a deluxe version of his album “Kansas Anymore,” which contains four more heartbreaking songs that makes fans feel seen on the day of love.
Released Feb. 14, the 17-track “Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye),” includes 14 extra minutes to his 41-minute tracklist of “Kansas Anymore,” which came out July 2024.
ROLE MODEL first teased his deluxe album with the song “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out,” which is going viral on TikTok, with 43.6k posts and counting. This upbeat song has fans dancing while exploring the feeling of falling head first after a love interest. However, the bridge is what fans have been craving since his tease in January, and it does not disappoint.
The lyrics, “Ankles hit the two-step, Sally makes my head hurt/Heard through the grapevine she can be a diva/Cold like Minnesota, hotter than a fever” bring a natural flow to the song. ROLE MODEL made this track as straightforward as he could when it came to chasing after the love he desires. Currently, “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out” has about 1.4 million streams on Spotify.
Another new track on his deluxe album that has fans in a whirlwind is “The Longest Goodbye.” At first listen, this song brings the same vibe as the 1999 Sarah McLachlan song, “When She Loved Me.”
“The Longest Goodbye,” has a raunchy country vibe, with a folk guitar-like sound backing it. Although, the lyrics are the star of the show when it comes to this track. The 27 year-old singer-songwriter reflects on his past relationship with the internet sensation, Emma Chamberlain. Breaking up in 2023, ROLE MODEL finally says his goodbyes in this lyrically gut-wrenching song.
He has a hard time saying farewell to his ex-lover, but with Chamberlain’s new relationship with singer-songwriter Peter McPoland, ROLE MODEL makes peace with his ever-lasting love. He sings, “And, if this is my goodbyе/It’s been the longest of my life/I see my shoes have been filled, and, still/All I can hope is that he’s treating you nice.”
Listeners may have thought the ending song to his original album, “Something, Somehow, Someday” couldn’t get any better. Though, “The Longest Goodbye” finishes off the deluxe version like no other, making the original uncomparable.
He ends the song with, “And I don’t think I love you anymore/But I don’t think I’ll ever be so sure,” hammering down the idea that he has accepted the hard truth of his relationship with Chamberlain, but no matter what, he will always cherish the love they shared and be grateful for their experiences.
Track 14 does not disappoint, with many lyrics referencing songs released along with the original album. “Old Recliners,” takes fans through a rollercoaster of reminiscence. In his second verse he sings about his long nights with his love interest, “I remember when the nights were long/Diving headfirst off the dock/Now I wonder where the days have gone.” This could be a direct reference to his song, “Frances,” which he reflects on their long nights together once again.
ROLE MODEL, yet again, knows how to bring a song home with the bridge. In this track he sings, “Do you think ’bout the nights, sharing Whitney/With the end of July in the air/Now you cry all night ’til the morning/In the arms of someone you settled for.” Here he is reflecting on what once was, but he expresses how he cannot let go, even if he tried.
Lastly, “Some Protector,” takes on a slower pace than the other three new tracks. Throughout this song, he still holds on to what he and Chamberlain had. ROLE MODEL knows the relationship is long gone, but he knows that bond will always still live on in his heart. In the bridge, he questions himself, “Am I dragging this forever?/Am I thinking ’bout September?/Am I wrecking rеputation/While you’re making resеrvations?” In this, ROLE MODEL expresses that he has completely ruined his reputation for Chamberlain, but while he’s doing that, she is seeking out a new love interest. This track shows ROLE MODEL is trapped in his head, keeping him stuck in his past relationship as well.
He ends the song with, “I am, and I always will/Be some protector/Some protector/Be some protector to ya.” In his heart, he will always be there for Chamberlain, no matter what new relationship she has entered.
“Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye),” adds the perfect amount of heartache to the already emotional album. Fans are able to take a dive in ROLE MODEL’s emotional mindset, and see where he stands with his past relationship. It also allows listeners to feel seen, especially during the season of love.
