The Lady Rams rocked Rivier College 3-0 this weekend to earn their third GNAC victory of the season, which is the highest among Suffolk soccer teams so far in the fall season. The beginning of the season might have been tough, but now it looks like the team has found its form and converted that to victories. The Lady Rams are more focused, more determined and most importantly they play as a team.
Against Rivier the Lady Rams showed how dangerous they can be when they play together as one unit. No matter what Rivier tried to come up with, Suffolk could not be stopped. Most of the match was a one way express train with the final destination being Rivier’s goal.
The first half was a true demonstration of pure class as the Lady Rams had 13 shots compared to Rivier’s five. Having most of the possession and confidently dominating the game, Suffolk scored it’s first goal in the 24th minute when Lady Ram topscorer Taylor Miranda (four goals) put the ball in the net from a beautiful pass by Gabrielle Balestrier. Not much time would pass before Suffolk got the inevitable second goal scored by Katherine Cote from a 15 yard distance. The second half was more even between the two teams, as Suffolk produced only one more shot than Rivier. For a long time, it looked like the final score would be 2-0 in favor of Suffolk, but then Nicole Hunt showed that the party was not over. Hunt scored the final goal in the 86th minute with an assist from the woman of the day Katherine Cote who had an incredible day with an assist and a goal.
As the regular season is moving on towards the end, the Lady Rams are looking more and more confident on the field and ready to take on any team. Next important mission will be the match against Johnson & Wales tonight. Here the ladies can take a huge step in the playoffs direction since it is another conference game. If the Lady Rams’ win this match, the team is almost certainly going to make it to the playoffs this year.
One of the keys to earn the entrance to the playoffs is forward Taylor Miranda. The senior has scored four goals and is certainly hungry for more in her fourth and last season for the Lady Rams. The hopes are high among the players and there is a great atmosphere with the team. It’ time for the Remarkable Lady Rams to shine.
