PARIS, France–The mood among French politicians began to shift from support for jailed filmmaker, Oscar winner Roman Polanski, to the argument that he should not be forgiven for his charge of raping a thirteen-year- old girl 31 years ago, according to the New York Times. Extreme right politicians in France criticized French ministers for their initial support of Polanski, 76, saying they were supporting “a criminal pedophile in the name of the rights of the political-artistic class.” Polanski, a French and Polish citizen, fled the United States in 1978 before he was accused of having sex with a minor. Since then he has lived in France and was arrested when he arrived at Zurich’s airport to attend a local film festival.

BANGALORE, India — After India’s first lunar space mission discovered water molecules on the Moon’s polar regions, the country has hailed the space program and the discovery has helped to begin deeper research into what else might be discovered on the moon. According to AFP, India’s Moon Impact Probe “had picked up strong signals of water particles” and the discovery is being studied more thoroughly by NASA. The mission, along with the findings, puts India into the elite group of space-exploring nations.

HAVANA, Cuba — President Raul Castro asked the United States this week to discuss immigration issues with the island nation, along with asking for the U.S. to drop their embargo on Cuba, according to the AP. Cuba would also like Guantanamo Bay to be returned, for the U.S. to end funding to anti-Castro radio, and to end the travel ban of U.S. citizens to Cuba. Cuba’s foreign minister didn’t say what concessions the Cuban government might offer in return.
