The Suffolk University men’s basketball team lost their first two home games against UMASS-Boston and Emerson College. After both defeats, the Rams are now 3-4, and are now on their way to face Johnson & Wales.
All eyes were on the Rams as UMASS-Boston stepped into Ridgeway, and both teams put on a show. UMASS-Boston led as the last seconds rolled away, but Suffolk still had life in them as Suffolk’s Chris Torres hit a shot in the closing seconds to send the game into overtime. It stayed close in overtime, until UMASS-Boston hit two three-pointers in a row to take away any hope for Suffolk. It was a 100-98 loss, their second overtime loss this season.
Suffolk then faced their first conference rival, Emerson College, where Suffolk Coach Adam Nelson faced former Boston College Head Coach Jim O’Brien. The Rams were outmatched by the Lions as Suffolk never seemed to gain momentum. The final score was 90-74, and it was Emerson’s first victory of the season, as they are now 1-6.
Throughout the game, the Rams seemed to waste too many possessions and play like some possessions mattered more than others.
Junior Mickey McEntee led the Rams with 19 points, and senior Matt Pepdjonovic scored 17 points and had nine rebounds.
Suffolk plays at Johnson & Wales Thursday and at home against St. Joseph’s on Saturday. Suffolk then has about a month off for winter break before resuming their season on January 7 against Albertus Magnus.
