This year’s Oscars were filled with firsts. The first woman, Autumn Durald Arkapaw, to win Best Cinematography for “Sinners,” the first winner of the Casting category, Cassandra Kulukundis for “One Battle After Another” and the first project featuring a K-pop group to win an Oscar with “KPop Demon Hunters.”
The film “One Battle After Another” took home six awards, the most of the night, collecting Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn’s performance, Best Director to Paul Thomas Anderson, Kulukundi’s work in Casting, Best Adapted Screenplay by Anderson and Best Film Editing by Andy Jurgensen.
Milestones were also reached by the Best Actress and Actor categories as Jessie Buckley won her first Oscar for “Hamnet” and became the first Irish woman to win in the category. Michael B. Jordan took home his first Oscar for his two-character leading performance in “Sinners,” contributing to the four awards the film walked away with after its record-breaking 16-nomination season.
Other standouts for the award show included Ludwig Göransson’s third Best Original Score award for his work in “Sinners,” which accompanies his winning scores from “Oppenheimer” in 2024 and “Black Panther” in 2019. The seventh tie in Oscars history was between “The Singers” and “Two People Exchanging Saliva” in the Best Live Action Short Film category.
