A bomb threat was sent to Suffolk University Jan. 12, the first day of classes for the Spring 2026 semester.
The Suffolk University Police Department notified students at 10:40 am that officers were responding to reports of an incident in the Stahl Building on 73 Tremont St. They later told students that there was a reported bomb threat in the library.
The Boston Police bomb squad conducted the precautionary sweep of the Sawyer Library, according to a Boston Police Department spokesperson.
SUPD temporarily closed the Sawyer Library and removed students while the Boston Police Department conducted a precautionary sweep. The sweep was concluded and the building re-opened after about 15 minutes.
In a message to students at 11:40 am, SUPD said there is no indication of an imminent threat.
BPD have also reported multiple other institutions and hospitals across the region that have received similar threats today. There is no indication of a credible threat, according to reports from SUPD and BPD.
“Each incident is currently being investigated by the BPD Bomb Squad. Preliminary information indicates that all of the threats under investigation were received electronically via email,” said Officer Mark Marron of the Boston Police Department Office of Media Relations.
This is a developing story that will be updated as more details become available.
