Coming off an amazing season, Suffolk University’s women’s golf team finished winners in the Northeast Women’s Golf Conference and were sent to the NCAA Tournament. Now, the team prepares to transition from the Northeast Women’s Golf Conference to the Conference of New England, leaving questions about the level of competition they will face in this upcoming season.
Women’s golf is switching from NWGC to CNE due to CNE’s new chapter in women’s golf adding it to the 2025-2026 season. The major difference in formation is CNE is composed of eleven full member institutions such as Curry and Endicott College. Starting a new chapter in CNE, the women’s golf team is looking at a multi-sport competition that has a different course style than NWGC.
“Definitely are working a lot more on undulating greens because the CNE championship course has a lot more.” said junior Captain Brooke Bugajewski.
To prepare, the team has been hustling during practices and working on certain golf skills such as short game.
“We spend most of our week practicing from 12 to around 5 pretty much every single day,” said freshman Lauren Phelan.
Not only does the CNE feature new competition, but a new season change for the golf team.
“The biggest change for us is that now our championship is in the fall. Where for the last nine years it’s been in the spring,we don’t have the luxury of going through our fall season to prepare for the spring season per se,” said Head Coach Jay Parker.
Even with the season switch, the team continues to consistently stay on top of the game and prepare for the fall.
The team is extremely excited for the new competition and is not afraid of what is coming next. “Same goals, still doing the same practice routine, everyone’s pumped for the new season,” said Bugajewski.
Along with the players, the coaches are equally excited.
“Obviously we are playing against new teams, most of the coaches I know personally so it’s nice to catch up with friends,” said Parker.
Going into this new season of women’s golf, the goals stay the same for the team.
“It would be cool to come into a new league and win, obviously that’s everyone’s goal, right?” said Bugajewski.
Moving into the CNE marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Suffolk’s women’s golf team. Their drive, both on and off the course, will keep them swinging strong.
