On the Sawyer building’s fourth floor, the Suffolk University Program Council held a fast food and raffle ticket fair April 10 where students had a chance to enter to win various prizes.
The line waiting for entry into the raffle wrapped around the entire floor. Students had to choose between clinging to their spot in line or stepping out to grab a limited amount of free food, which ran out only an hour into the event.

In order to obtain a raffle, students had to show their Suffolk ID, and then walk up to the table where the prizes were listed. Then, students would put their raffle ticket into a bowl next to one of the options, which ranged from sports tickets for the Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics games to electronics like AirPods, a Kindle or a Nintendo Switch.
“I thought I kind of wanted to just bring a bunch of food onto campus because I know a lot of students like free food,” said Abby Nallan, a third-year public relations major and coordinator for the event. “Then I was like, hmm. How could I switch this? How can I switch it and make it something more people would want to go to? And I was like, I have enough money for some raffles, let’s throw that in there… Just make it a nice little community space.”
The turnout was higher than expected. According to a Suffolk PC Instagram story, they were able to feed over 130 people.

Han Nguyen, a freshman double major in marketing and film who helped with the event preparation, said that more than 150 people showed up, more than what typical events bring in. “The turnout was amazing,” said Nguyen.
The event ran from 5-7 p.m., with most of the attendees filing in somewhat early to get a spot in line.
