People from across Massachusetts gathered on the Boston Common April 5 to protest against Trump, new policies, Elon Musk and more. This was part of a nationwide protest movement called “Hands Off!”
Streets around the Suffolk University campus were blocked off and people lined Tremont Street with signs, flags and their voices to advocate for healthcare, education, democracy, freedom of choice and so much more – the general message: hands off the community.
As opening speakers began in the common, the roar of voices echoed through the city. Before long, the streets were packed as the march to City Hall began. Leading the march was Sen. Ed Markey.
More people were at City Hall and gathered in front of the stage where speakers and performers would be. The grounds filled once again as an estimated over 10,000 people gathered.
After the protest, people lined up their signs along fences on Tremont Street, leaving the messages clear to passersby who may not have been involved in the march that morning. As night fell, the signs remained and even when the rain washed away some of the lettering, they continued to have a presence in the streets. By the following afternoon, all the signs were gone.
