The women’s basketball team has had quite the last few weeks. The team is currently 14-6 overall and are vying for the top stop in the GNAC. With a team comprised of mostly underclassmen, they have done an incredible job of playing well against a tough conference. They are 8-1 against teams in their conference, which undoubtedly makes things easier come the stretch run of the season.
They have won 10 of their last 11 games, and now they are receiving recognition for their work from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Freshman Jennifer Ruys was recently named GNAC Rookie of the Week after putting up impressive numbers against Johnson & Wales and Lasell. In both blowout wins she averaged 18 points. Following in her lead was sophomore Jacqueline Vienneau, who was named to GNAC’s Weekly Honor Roll for the second week in a row. She recently set a career-high with 23 points and 10 rebounds in the team’s impressive win against Johnson & Wales. The sophomore is leading the team in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game. She and Ruys have done a great job complementing each other from the inside out, with Ruys dominating the paint and Vienneau leading the way at point guard.
Both players will be instrumental in the team going far in the GNAC tournament. The team has shown thus far they are capable of playing with any team in the conference. These two players are a big reason why.
