Students this evening were informed over email of President Sargent’s decision to retire by Board of Trustees chairman Andrew Meyer. Sargent’s retirement comes after 21 years of service to Suffolk University. Provost Barry Brown will immediately assume duties of the President while the board starts the process of searching for a new president, according to the email Meyers sent to students. The article on the retirement in today’s print edition states that Pres. Sargent’s “salary is said to be approximately $800,000 a year” (p. 3).
There is no need to rely on hearsay. The salaries of the University’s highest paid employees are reported in IRS Form 990, a public document. You can download a copyfrom Guidestar.com – you have to create an account on the site, but it’s free.
