Bonnaroo, which is currently in its eighth year, has been described by Rolling Stone as “the ultimate over-the-top summer festival” which is supported by the masses that attend the festival every year. The festival is held 17 hours away from Boston, in Manchester, Tenn. The festival allows for groups of people to come together for a huge cultural event. They can either stay in tents, RVs, or at off-site hotels.
The festival prides itself on becoming a sustainable festival, incorporating different eco-friendly ideas into the day to day activities of the event. Food vendors are encouraged to buy ingredients locally, while water is provided by wells. The amount of recyclables recycled last year wasn’t a ton, it was 130 tons.
This year’s lineup includes a mixture of artists and genres that truly shape Bonnaroo into a melting pot of art. In addition to rookie rappers Kid Cudi and Wale, Jay-Z will be performing. Comedy rock duo Tenacious D will be joined by other bands such as the demon rock gods GWAR and up and coming electro act Neon Indian. Brooklyn based band They Might Be Giants will also be performing as they enter their twenty-seventh year of show business, something fellow Bonnaroo attendee Stevie Wonder did decades ago. Weezer, which had to pull out of their last tour due to a bus accident involving front man Rivers Cuomo, has recently returned to the stage, announcing their intention of playing this year’s festival as well. The number of acts playing is incredible, with bands such as Phoenix and Blues Traveler, two different sounding acts, playing to the same audience.
Other headliners include Dave Matthews Band, Norah Jones, and The Flaming Lips, who will be playing Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety.
Bonnaroo will take place from July 2-4 in Manchester, Tenn.
