INSTARAM: What is your major/year?
ANNA MARTEL: Theatre Performance, Junior

What activities are you involved in on and off campus?
MARTEL: If I’m not working on a performance class, I’m learning how to tech a show, build a prop, or learning a new monologue for upcoming auditions. I work in a computer lab and use the free time sitting there at a computer signing people in to look up techniques and theatre performances for inspiration.

How did you find your way around campus? What advice do you have for the incoming freshmen?
MARTEL: I learned the campus by repetition, the more you go out and walk around, the more comfortable you’ll become with the area. I liked to think of it as 10 West and 150 Tremont are the furthest out, in the middle you have Miller, 73 Tremont and Sawyer, and down behind the state house you have Archer, Fenton, and Donahue.

My advice to the freshman coming in would be to not be afraid to ask directions of the security guards in your building if you’re unsure where your class might be, and to get out of the dorms on the weekends and explore Boston. Your freshman year goes fast, and each year only goes by faster. Get out there and experience it all.

What has been your greatest accomplishment at Suffolk?
MARTEL: To me, the proudest moment I’ve had at Suffolk was my directing final this year, where I had to put together a performance piece together from scratch. Write it, figure out the cast, rehearse them, get props, and get set, light and sound figured out. It was incredible to be involved in so many aspects of theatre. Random: Tell us your favorite joke!
MARTEL: Suffolk and Emerson have a kind of rivalry when it comes to theatre, and one of the best jokes I’ve ever heard about Emerson was this : How many Emerson students, does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

21! One to screw in the light bulb, and 20 to be holding the ladder and grumbling “That should be me up there!!”
