The Women’s Soccer team and the Cross-Country team at Suffolk received recognition for their impressive work for the week of September 20. With wins from both the men’s and women’s soccer teams, adding individual awards is a rewarding bonus.

Freshman Gabrielle Balestrier was named GNAC Player of the Week for the women’s soccer team. Throughout the week she scored four goals and added an assist, helping the Lady Rams sweep conference matchups against Simmons and Emmanuel College. Her ten points on the season thus far are good for second on the team. During the team’s 6-2 win vs. Emmanuel she netted her first career hat trick.

Freshman Taylor Miranda also had quite a week, earning GNAC Rookie of the Week honors for the Women’s team.  She contributed four goals and an assist herself, starting her first season with a bang. In addition, she currently leads the team with 13 points.

Cross-Country also had a good week for the Suffolk Rams, with two freshman athletes earning rookie awards for their impressive displays.

Freshman Erik Paine was the men’s top runner, finishing second in the 5.62 mile race at the Eagles Invitational held at Daniel Webster College (the team placed second overall in the meet). He was subsequently named GNAC Rookie of the Week.

As for the women’s team, freshman Bridget Evangelista won Rookie of the Week honors, placing eighth in the Eagles Invitational, with her team finishing third overall.

With young student-athletes showing promise early on, there is no reason to believe these awards won’t keep piling up for the respective teams.
