Does splashing the cash in the premier league pay off?

Manchester City made a huge splash spending 113.5 million dollars in signings this summer’s transfer window by signing Argentinean Sergio Kun Aguero for 53 million and Frenchman Samir Nasri for 30 million.
With the new acquisitions, City has gone from pretender to contender. Trainer Roberto Mancini now has a plethora of talented players at his disposal. With the likes of many talented players, the Italian has been given as much as he needs to take a trophy back to the blue side of Manchester. A disappointing draw at Fulham on Sunday provided a setback for their title aspirations and their mission to silence the doubters as the team is currently in second place.
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is desperate to bring Chelsea another title spending 93.75 million dollars. After much criticism about the lack of pace and an aging squad, Abramovich went out and bought twenty three year old Spaniard Juan Mata for 33 million to enrich the creativity in midfield, and eighteen year old Belgian international Romelu Lukakufor for 28 million. He has been labeled as “the new Drogba”.
At 6’3, 200 pounds, the 18 year old is a core piece of Chelsea’s rebuilding process post the Terry-Lampard-Drogba era.  Now the blues look to re-group as they travel to Fulham for a showdown at Craven Cottage and look to move up from their current third place.
A dismal 2010-2011 campaign to a traditionally successful club saw John Henry (familiar name in Boston) purchase a phalanx of midfielders. With the new additions, Liverpool  spent 78 million dollars  and will look to take back a place in the top four and have hopes of contending for the title.
After a disappointing, but deserved loss to Barcelona in the Champions League, the Manchester United spent 73.25 million dollars trying to find some needed pace for the squad. Sir Alex Ferguson went out and got English internationals Ashley Young for 23.5 million and Phil Jones for 23.5 million, along with Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea. The Red Devils have torched teams in their first four matches, most notably an 8-2 demolishment of Arsenal, and sit atop of the table with much confidence.
It will be interesting to see how the season shapes out with the top four spending teams. All teams believe they have what it takes to come away with the trophy but only one can win.
