While the Suffolk University women’s volleyball team is preparing for their season this upcoming fall, they will now be under the direction of a new head coach. The Suffolk Athletics Department announced last week that Noel Moran will be the new head volleyball coach for the 2011 campaign.
Moran will step in for Heather Cox, who served as both an assistant and head coach since 2007 and will now pursue her law degree at Suffolk University.
Moran has plenty of experience and qualifications for the head coaching position. She has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach and helped the team improve in wins each season with the team.
Moran graduated from Suffolk in 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Communications/Public Relations. She had a very successful collegiate career at Suffolk, during which she was a four-year starter as an outside hitter. During her senior year, she was the team captain and was named to the Great Northeast Athletic All-Conference All-Star team.
Before attending Suffolk, Moran was an outstanding player at New Bedford High School. She received an All Scholastic High School Career Honors award, and was also a participant on two gold medal-winning teams (2002, 2003) in the Bay State Games as well as a Silver Medal winning team in 2001.
Moran’s impressive resume also consists of her holding the New Bedford school record for most digs. She also competed in the Junior Olympics for eight years and travelled overseas to play in New Zealand and Australia in 2002.
The Suffolk women’s volleyball squad finished with a 13-19 overall record in 2010. Hopefully, with the help of Moran, the volleyball team will be able to improve upon this record and turn the program around. Looking at her track record, and what she has at her disposal for the next few seasons, there is no reason to think she isn’t capable of the task.
