The Suffolk women’s hockey team is posing a threat to the rest of the Conference of New England, sitting second overall with a league record of 5-3-1. While the team still has over a month left of the regular season, they are already making headlines and are close to breaking records. One standout player contributing to the team’s success is senior captain Liliana Moose.
Moose, hailing from Rochester, New York, has been with the team since her freshman year. She has always been a standout player from the beginning, dishing out double-digit points since 2022. Now she helps lead the team alongside other captains Jenna Caballero and Katie Newkirk.
With the season now halfway done, Moose discussed how the first half has been so far.
“We’ve been doing really well in our league play…out of conference games, we’ve been struggling a little more with,” said Moose. “As a captain, we’re doing our best to help encourage the team and stick to our systems and do everything that we need to do to win.”
The Rams overall record currently stands at 5-10-1, slightly less impressive than their conference record, but Moose is confident in her team for the games that remain. Conference games are also something that the team is always focused on, which contributes to their CNE record.
“When it comes to conference games, we know that they’re very important because we need them to be able to move onto playoffs and finals,” said Moose. “I think our conference record says that our team has a high drive and our coaches really want it for us to be able to make it to the championship and win.”
In terms of Moose’s individual success, she is currently ranked fourth in the conference, with the three goals and ten points she has contributed. She is also four points away from tying her career high in one season. Moose said it feels good to see that her hard work is paying off.
“It feels really good to know that I’m contributing statistically, and obviously, I hope I can have a career high for my last season,” said Moose.
The Rams beat Endicott College Jan. 10, which was a huge win for the team as Endicott is a conference matchup as well as one of the team’s biggest rivalries. Moose, who had two assists in this matchup, discussed how big of a win this was for the players.
“Being able to beat them was huge for us and a huge motivation that we could actually go far, it definitely helped our confidence as a team,” said Moose.
Looking ahead, the captain plans to help lead the rest of her team for the remainder of their season, and hopefully go all the way.
“I think that’s the main goal, just being able to make it to playoffs, win playoffs and then hopefully go to the NCAA tournament,” said Moose.
For Moose, it’s not just about the daily practices that matter. Due to her experience being on this team, she knows that being a good teammate and leader helps bring players together, on and off the ice.
“On the ice, I hope to prove myself with statistics, being able to score and get assists,” said Moose. “Off the ice, just being able to be encouraging and be a friend for anyone who needs one, just helping to bring the team together and making sure that we are all on the same page.”
While the season is still far from over, Moose is already setting her sights high, hoping to win it all in her last year as a Ram.
The Rams face off against Johnson and Wales in a conference matchup at the Porrazzo Rink in East Boston on Friday, Jan. 23.
