The Journal is making a hip, technological breakthrough that we are hoping will change the way people look at newspapers! We proudly introduce the QR code, or as some may know it: the 2D tag. Used a lot already in advertising (especially in Japan), this glyph can connect the world of print to the Internet almost instantaneously.
Here’s how it works: If you a smart phone, download a free QR/barcode scanner application, they will be able to get instant, updated news on their phone.
But what actually are these weird glyphs? They are small matrix barcodes that can hold information such as a URL, a photo or a simple message. In the Journal’s case, they will be URL’s linking readers back to updated information on our website regarding a specific article in that week’s publication.
As the print industry rapidly adjusts to the technological revolution, we too will adjust. So if you see these QR codes in the paper every week and have a smart phone, feel free to scan them and see what updated information we have for you. Find updated sports scores, new music, election results or anything else we can think to keep up to date! The best scanner apps we’ve found at the Journal have been “QuickMark”, “Bar Code Scanner” and “KAYWA Reader”. Join the technological revolution! Download them and stay up to date with the news!
LOOK HERE IF YOU USED THE QR CODE LINK!
Congrats and welcome to the revolution! You have successfully used the first QR code in the Suffolk Journal. You’re now a part of our history. Look through the paper every week from now on for other QR codes with updates and news that has not been printed. Tell us what you think!
