Chara and Bergeron to Play Overseas

Boston Bruin’s captain Zdeno Chara has done as others have, and signed with a KHL team. Chara will play for Prague this year, unless the lockout comes to an end. Patrice Bergeron has also announced he will play for for HC Lugano in Switzerland. That makes a total of nine Boston players who will leave the United States to play hockey in a different league during the lockout. All the players leaving to play hockey in a different country are Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley, Tuukka Rask, Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference, Anton Khudobin, and David Krejci. With all the players not sounding optimistic about the labor talks, it is hard to imagine how long the NHL players leaving will be gone for. Now that the first week of preseason has been canceled, it gives hockey fans the feeling that this is not all just a bad dream, but a sad reality that there might not be any hockey this year for the NHL.

Romo Falls Apart on Monday Night Football

The Dallas Cowboys were completely steam-rolled by the Chicago Bears under the lights of Monday Night Football. Tony Romo recorded one touchdown, plus two more, but for the wrong team. Romo threw two interceptions for touchdowns in Monday’s game, he also threw a total of five interceptions in the game. After the second interception for a Chicago touchdown, the Bears were up 24-7. Romo was so bad, they had to bring back-up quarterback Kyle Orton, who ironically, went nine for ten in completions. Romo finished with an unbelievably bad quarterback rating: 14.2. Bears’ Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall was the player of the game with seven catches for 138 yards, and a touchdown. Dallas Owner Jerry Jones was disappointed in the Cowboy’s play, but now they have to move on and gear up to try and challenge the Baltimore Ravens on the road after their bye-week. The Cowboys need to ask a bold question: Will Orton be better for the Dallas Cowboys right now?

L.A. Still Belongs to Kobe

Dwight Howard and Steve Nash march into Los Angeles to create the newest “Big 3,” but Kobe has made it clear that it is still his team. Kobe claims that the team is his right now, but when he retires, it will be passed down to Howard. This raises questions if pride will be a problem in the locker room with three All-Star players, two of which have huge attitudes with teammates in past seasons.  He hopes that when he retires, it is as if he had never left, and the team will stay on top. Bryant, 34, in his 17th season, leads a loaded roster with Howard and Nash, but also players Pau Gasol, Metta World Peace (formly known as Ron Artest,) and Antawn Jamison. The Lakers are expected to be the team to beat in the West, and be the number one threat to the champions, the Miami Heat.

McQueary Files Defamation Claim Against Penn State

Former Penn State assistant football coach Mike McQueary has sued his former employer for defamation and misrepresentation following his role in the Jerry Sandusky scandal. In 2001, McQueary claimed he had seen Sandusky sexually assaulting a young boy in the team showers. He reported the incident to head coach Joe Paterno, who passed the story along to his higher-up, who did not do anything. McQueary is claiming that the university’s president at the time the scandal broke “suggested that McQueary was lying in his reports and testimonies that he had reported the sexual misconduct.” He says that the treatment he received from Penn State caused him “distress, anxiety, humiliation, and embarrassment,” and has “irreparably harmed his ability to earn a living.”
