Students celebrate Valentine’s

Students celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Cupid’s Shuffle Festival hosted this past weekend at the Modern Theater. The Residence Hall Association joined forces with the Off Campus Housing Office and Suffolk Sustainability to provide the festive Weekend Program for students.

Suffolk’s Modern Theater underwent a beautiful transformation, with heart decorations and balloons spread throughout the venue. The seats were withdrawn inside in order to open up the floor for a Dance-Off competition, which was quite the success among the students in attendance. The Dance-Off competition winners included Junior Ryan Breslin deemed Funniest Dancer, Freshman Mohamed Hayibor awarded with Most Original, and Sophomore Daniel Sena accepted the evening’s highest title of All-Around Best Dancer.
In addition to the music and the dancing, the Residence Hall Association and the Off Campus Housing Office provided free food for attendees to enjoy while celebrating the cheerful holiday.  Memorable treats included snow cones, popcorn, and candy, along with a Hershey Kisses kissing booth.  Suffolk Sustainability provided the opportunity to create eco-friendly Valentines for friends and sweethearts.
Jacqueline Bresnahan, Residence Hall Association president, described these Weekend Programming events as an attempt to “promote community and better behavior” amongst the Suffolk student body.
Daniel Newell, a Residential Assistant at 10 West, agreed. “The idea of Weekend Programming is unique. It is meant to give students more options on the weekends, rather than just going to parties.”
Residence Hall Association was also promoting the sale of Valentine Grams at the colorful event, an ongoing fundraiser meant to raise money for the annual Residential Hall Association regional conference.
Attendees deemed the event a success. Bresnahan was pleased to see that it went over well with students after the months Residence Hall Association spent planning it, and thanks everyone that attended.
Upcoming Residence Hall Association events include their participation in Suffolk’s Unity Week in March, as well as a “Pie Your RA in the Face” event.
