What to do if you don’t have a Valentine

It’s no secret, Valentine’s day is coming up (tomorrow to be specific) and with it comes a lot of emotions. People look at Valentine’s Day differently. There’s the people in relationships, getting all lovey-dovey and buying presents and all that jazz. There’s the little kids signing their names 30 times on Frozen-themed valentines. There’s the bitter singles cursing the world and complaining about their seemingly life-long lonely hearts club memberships.

And then there’s people like me. And I’m sure there are a lot of people like me. Single, but not bitter. I love the idea of having a valentine even though the only one I’ve ever had was my sixth grade crush when we barely knew what it really meant. I think it’s sweet that people are out there searching for the right cards to give their loved ones even though the only I’ve gotten, (and probably will get this year) is the one I just found in my mail box from my dad. (Thanks Pops!)

Whether you’re bitter like some people, or just plain alone like me, what’s there to do? Well, I’ll tell you what.

  1. Have a Movie Marathon-*Cue Beyonce’s Single Ladies* Gather all your single friends, or any friends that don’t plans for that matter and have a romantic (or non-romantic) movie marathon! Make popcorn, hot cocoa, cupcakes, whatever your little lonely hearts desire.
  2. Have some Me Time- Cook yourself a nice dinner, do some self-pampering (I suggest a long, hot bubble bath to help your body forget about the arctic that has become of Boston) catch up on your favorite shows or maybe watch some new movies. Whatever you like to do best, treat yourself with that.
  3. Go out by Yourself  –Go for it. Make a statement. Odds are no one’s really going to notice. Go to a movie (I suggest hitting up the Museum of Science and seeing one of their Omni shows, or perhaps their Laser light show?) Go out to eat by yourself (truly an empowering experience) Go see a live show or comedian, (maybe, Jessimae Peluso at Laugh Boston?) You can, (and definitely should )check out one of the performances of Suffolk’s Spring Showcase! The very talented cast have been working hard and it’s a show you don’t want to miss! There’s a million things you could find to do if you just start looking.

If none of these things interest you, you could always just continue curing the world and swiping through Tindr. I won’t judge.
