Many gathered on Friday night to attend the gallery opening of “The Beatles are Dull and Ordinary” the artwork of New York-based artist David X. Levine. This gallery showcases his 10-year journey through expressive colored pencil drawings, unique shapes and bright vivid colors. His newest artwork was named after the legendary English band from the 1960s, the Beatles.

The exhibition took place at the Boston University’s Sherman Gallery, a small, cozy gallery, partitioned off into three different sections. Each room displayed four to five of Levine’s drawings.

Upon entering the gallery, guests were immediately greeted by coat checkers and delicious snacks and beverages helping to set the casual mood for the night. Throughout the course of the event, Levine had a guitarist who provided some light background music for guests to enjoy while viewing the artwork.

Levine was attentive to all guests who were in attendance, and had fans lined up to compliment his artwork and take pictures with the artist himself.

The event seemed to attract an older crowd, but Levine’s artwork can appeal to anyone. As a spectator, I found his artwork to be very vibrant.

Levine has always been inspired by music and has been known to name much of his work after musicians across many genres, including Amy Winehouse and Miles Davis. This time it wasn’t any different dedicating his artwork to the Beatles, and he continues to be thankful for music that serves as the inspiration for his work.

“The Beatles are Dull and Ordinary” will be on display until March 27, and is free to the public.
