Men’s soccer’s season comes to an end

The Suffolk Ram’s men’s soccer team lost in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinals on Saturday against St. Josephs. The Rams, 5-13-1, were not expected to accomplish too much this year, but what mattered was that they stood strong and made the playoffs.
St. Josephs won 3-0 against Suffolk, which was a win surged by Zach Johnson’s goal in the first opening minutes of the match. Johnson finished the match with two of the three goals against the Rams.
The Ram’s shot themselves in the foot during the game by giving up that early goal, having four yellow cards and a red card, and only having a little more than half the shots that the Monks had. The Monks, 12-5, made a strong statement in this match that they can control the field and finish games, whereas  Suffolk seemed almost overwhelmed and unprepared to go into this game.
The Rams, with only five seniors, look like a rugged team that can gain experience from a loss like this. Next year they should be more than prepared with a stronger team, and be able to take advantage on the offensive side of the field.
The end of a season, means the end of some great Ram careers, as we say goodbye to David Best, Carlos Flores-Rodriguez, Danny Lloyd, Nick Cugine, and Boubacar Diarra. When great players leave, new underclassmen rise to become the next hope for the Rams. Expect Coach Andrius Zeikus to have his team ready and focused next season to surprise everyone.
