How To: Temple Street Fair

Temple Street Fair may not seem like the most difficult, nerve wracking thing you’re going to experience, and it’s not. However, it’s still nice to have a few tips and tricks for how to conquer is flawlessly. Here are some of my favorites.

1. Get there early.

This is listed first because I cannot stress the importance of it.

a. The first reason behind this is my favorite part: the free stuff. You’re going to leave Temple St. with enough water bottles to last you a life time, if not longer, most likely a foam Ram, 9000 pens, and some PC Chap stick (highly recommended.) The only problem is, groups run out of their giveaways pretty quickly, and you don’t want to be the only one out of your friends without that sweet magnet with your face on it. (Trust me, you don’t.)

b. There are a lot of clubs and organizations at this school, and so many signed up for the Temple St Fair that they physically cannot fit on the 9th floor of 73 Tremont. You’re going to want to give yourself some time to check everything out.

2. Bring a tote bag, or find a table giving them out.

(see number 1. A)

3. Don’t be nervous.

I’m serious. Upperclassmen can smell fear and will attack. Don’t be intimated by the tables with a lot of representation. Excited current members are a good indicator of a fun group. That being said, don’t ignore the quieter tables. They could be just what you’re looking for.

4. Sign up for everything.

What have you got to lose? (A nice, neat, empty inbox? Those are overrated anyway…)

5. Do your best to follow through.

I’m not saying you should kill yourself trying to attend meetings for a hundred different clubs every week, but I also don’t advise selling yourself short for fear of getting overwhelmed. One of my regrets from my freshmen year was actually not signing up for more clubs. It’s much easier to take a lot on, then, if you begin to feel overwhelmed, bow out gracefully, than it is to realize halfway through the semester that you’re bored out of your mind and wish you had been more involved from the beginning. There’s a place for everyone at the school, and if you trust yourself work at it, you can fit in everything you want to do.

Don’t forget, Temple Street Fair is tomorrow, Sept.18, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.! Hope to see you all there!
