BLOG: Last Minute Valentine’s Idea

If you’re like me, and like old movies, 1942’s Casablanca is probably at the top of your favorite’s list.

If you’ve never seen it before, there is a perfect way to see it, for only $7 with your student ID. The Brattle theatre by Harvard Square is playing it tonight at 7:00 and at 9:45 on the big screen.

This film has a bit of every genre – comedy, adventure, romance…and the ending is one of the most classic in cinema history. It’s one of those films you have to see at some point in your life, and the Brattle gives you the best possible experience. Last night was my first time seeing this cinematic treasure, but I was immediately enchanted by the atmosphere. The old-timey theatre itself and the fact that they played a Looney Tunes cartoon before the movie (just like in the old days!) transported me immediately to the 1940s, which made the film-going experience all the more worthwhile. The experience overall was fantastic. I would definitely recommend it for an inexpensive last-minute Valentine’s date!

If you don’t happen to make it to Casablanca tonight…for fun and silly date this weekend, you can even make it to their 18th Annual Bugs Bunny Film Festival tomorrow night, at 5:30, 7:30, or 9:30 PM!

Right now, this particular venue is trying to make money in order to get a new projection system to keep up with the times (since most films are now only released in digital format to theatres) so any support will make a huge difference for them. Visit them at http://brattlefilm.org/ for more information!
